Monday

Today was a wonderful day.
I didn't have to do anything.
It was one of those days where there was no reason at all to shower. Do you know how heavenly that is?
We cleaned a little and read a little. We listened to music. The boys played with the kids in the neighborhood. It was lazy.
The boys and I had dinner listening to Norah Jones, and then ran up to Dairy Queen for a blizzard.

I am reading Les Miserables for the first time. If you have never read it, I recommend that you do so at once. I am half way thru and my imagination is captivated by the story of these people. It's sad like real life, without being depressing.
Another classic that I found surprisingly good was The Scarlet Letter.
Both of these books lay bare the deepest recesses of the heart. They display the darkest tragedies of my heart in words I could never form; they define the surest hope that's ever held me up; they document all passion of heart and breath and pain.
These authors put to words the things that you and I have lived.
...ok, so I'm a little dramatic. But the books are super great. They are classics for a reason and I think you should read them.
I am going to go read some more now!

I can hardly wait to see you, Auntie! I wish I could help you pack. Les Mis was recommended in another book I am reading called WITNESS by Whittaker Chambers. He said that the book led him into Communism, then also led him out. I think I see what he means.

Kelly, Les Mis is one of my favorites! Although I had seen the movies I wasn't at all disappointed because each movie has had to leave SO much of the story out. It is so amazingly rich!

As for the Scarlet Letter. I need to read that some day. I tried reading it right after I first got married, but I was in such a state of flux that my mind couldn't hold the story and I gave it up. Maybe next year after I am settled.

P.S. when are you going to do the meme I tagged you with?

Okay - your description of those books is exactly why I love you so.

I've not read Les Mis. I have a red leather bound set in French that I bought in Paris at the flea market. I think I'd better go with the English version... it'd take me years to get through the French.

Happy day, friend.

I've been visiting, but silently.
Tell us now, do you find yourself hooked onto this activity that half the world is crazy about? You write more often than I do!

I have read The Scarlett Letter but not Les Miserables. My mum has recommended it to me several times though. Odd, how a few of us are talking about books at the same time :) My booklist has no end
