So, I had dinner with Mother tonight. Mother is so incredibly beautiful, that it's annoyed me all my life. Why can't she have wash-and-wear gray hair like normal people? She has this super long auburn hair that's thick as my waist. Oh, and she's skinny.
Most people complain about looking like their mother. I am turning into my Mother, that is true. Why can't I just look like her? We do have alarmingly similar personalities, but I didn't get her good looks.
"Mother" (I don't know why I call her that, so don't bother asking). My other sisters don't call her that. Danielle calls her 'mom." Danielle is very early 20's and has a teeny tiny baby girl- Maddie.
Amanda calls her mommy, but I think that's because she's the youngest and it helps with her cute factor. I should write about them....
Dani really is a brand new mom. Maddie was born June 1st and she is beautiful. I like what Motherhood is doing to Dani. It changes all of us, doesn't it? She is changed, I think. She seems more thoughtful, more cautious. Now she's softer somehow. I can't wait to see what her life is like. She's quite and observant, and incisively wise.
Andi is in college and young. She has hair long enough to sit on and lots of brains for roots. She's in the nursing program at BSU. She's good at baking and eye make up and writing papers. She's quite responsible, over-all, and I can hardly wait to see what kind of woman she grows into. She's smart and funny and pretty laid back so far!
I have other siblings, too, you know. I collect them.
Kristin is in Heaven, and I don't think that's fair. I doubt she misses me as much as I miss her. All the memories I have of her leave off at the age of 18, before gravity and reality mellowed her into a woman.
Bentley doesn't call Mother anything. We actually share a father, not a mother. Incidentally, she calls him 'dad' and I call him 'Daddy'....but that's another story. Bentley works the night shift at Wal-mart, last I heard. She is very young, too. She is almost as absent as Kristin, and I miss her more than words can tell.
Trevor is my brother and he lives in Arizona. He is married and has a baby boy, and I hope they come home for Thanksgiving. I have never seen baby Tyler, but I love him just the same. Trevor is a smart kid, and his wife is someone I think I' like to know more. Her name is Tara, and he's just crazy about her.
I have a step-brother, too. His name is Casey and he lives in Alabama. I just saw him recently for the first time in 15 years. Gosh, he's turned out well. He's very witty, and quietly wise, and downright hysterical after a bit o' wine! I am glad to have had the chance to reconnect with him after all these years!
Well, that went from being a note about Mother to a recitation of my siblings! Funny how I ramble, no?

I've never met Casey, but I saw pictures of him, 'round about the time that Dan died.
I've always wished that I had gotten a chance to know Kristen, because I only have one (bad) memory of her. I hear she was wonderful.
I also want to get to know Danielle and Amanda better, because, though they are my cousins, they are virtual strangers to me. They (or at least your mom and Danielle and co.) should be coming in a few months and I am excited to hopefully get a chance to know her more.
