Pondering in Paradise

God gave me cooler weather. I am so thankful.
Today I have been reading rather a lot.
It's back to lazy and spoilt for me.
I'm thinking a lot though.
Thinking about deep questions.
Why does God tell women to cover our heads and be silent in church if He doesn't mean for us to obey?
Where do elders fit into a house church model?
How come killing a dog who barks all the time is considered inhumane? Wouldn't that be justifiable homicide?
How am I legalistic? Am I being legalistic if I tell you not to commit adultry? Is it legalistic to say that communion must be done by followers of Christ? Or is it legalism to focus on the act rather than the heart? Is the act, then, still neccessary?
I wonder.
Plus, I want chocolate.
These are my thoughts de jour.
Jen, you should comment. I know you want to. You, too, Yvonne. And Kris. Mother?
Soapboxes, everyone!

I firmly believe that a woman should have her head covered when she is up front prayer or teaching. One Sunday oldest daughter was asked to pray and I told her it would be fine as long as she covered her head. I even went out and bought her a nice Russian lace one. You would have thought I had killed the pastor there was such an uproar after her covering her head for the prayer that next week! But, if the Bible says it, I try to live it and teach it. But, NO ONE else in my church agrees with me.

Of course, this was to show the world that the Christian women leading a section of the service were not temple prostitutes, but the Bible does not say cover your head only if you are not a prostitute.

Elders very much are the spiritual leadership of any body of believers. Your pastor should be considered an elder, those whom teach should probably be elders. Small body or large body.

As for killing dogs. Well, you know, a barking dog is only doing what is normal for him. And if you kill an animal - how is that inhumane? God gave us authority over them, for good or bad.

Legalism is the death of Christianity. So many I know are into not eating certain foods, or not listening to certain musics, or not going to the movies, or (you pick it!).....

We have compleat freedom in Christ, but that is not freedom to sin! If something bothers our soul in our walk with the Lord, we should avoid that but not make it a requirement for others - if it is not sin. I have friends whom will not eat tomatoes, because they read somewhere that a tomatoe was actually what the "apple" was in the garden of Eden. Of course, it does little good to explain to them that the tomatoe was actually a hybred from the 15th century - being more like a small berry prior to that!

One sunday school teacher locally collects garden art, preferring pornographic statuary. Does not bother him a bit (it does me!). He loves to travel the world hitting all of the major gambling cities every year (I think this is wrong!). And though I do not understand how he can love the same Lord as I, he does.

So are you legalistic? Would you only cover your head to show others how submissive you are to the Word, or would you do it to show your humility to Christ? One would be wrong and therefore sin.

Chocolate! Now you are talking!!!!!!

Hi Kris! So, you think it would be ok to kill the dog?

My thoughts on dogs:

Dominion over animals DOES NOT mean that we are allowed to treat animals poorly because they are part of God's creative expression and He loves them. HOWEVER, barking dogs are whole different ball of wax. I have a puppy (Kel, did you know?) and he's a barker and I SWEAR, one day I'm going to snap his neck! That's why we have enrolled him in Puppy School (maybe I should be in anger management).

As for the rest. I ask this question: What is your stance on birth control?

As someone who's suffered from abstinance for 10 years, I doubt my opinion has any credibility. However, I think I am against it, if you want to know the truth.

Jenn
I am so happy that you got a dog! What's his (her?) name? How's the bump? Did you see Harry Potter and read Heather Anne's thoughts?

Kelly, Charles and I went to see HP last night. I thought it was great! It was pretty true to the book, although there were tons of things that were left out, but obviously, there had to be. Did you ever read her thoughts on Harry Potter. I'll send you an email with the link to the post. I thought it was pretty good.

I did read Her stuff on Harry Potter, she converted me! I was in the "Harry is the Devil" camp before she set me free. Now I love him. I wonder if she has written anything on the role of women in the church....?
