Who's going to educate these kids?

The time for school is nearly upon me. Public schools hereabouts begin on the 25th, and my plan has been to do the same.

Usually, at this point in the Summer, I am all geared up to begin again. Not so much this year. Home school seems like a lot of work. Frankly, it doesn't pay all that well. And a teenager? Will likely try all my mental acuity.

I have an 8th grader, and a 6th grader. It's all middle school, all the time.
Thursday evening is football registration, and M' is already fancying himself the star of the team. I love to watch football, especially when my kid is playing. Nothing brings the expectation of changing seasons like a good football game.

Then, it's gonna be pumpkin picking.
Turkeys.
Then Christmas shopping.
Skiing.
Spring break.
Remember how I get ahead of myself?

Today, I need to give some consideration to lesson plans for the first week of school. Geez, I am so not ready for this.

It will be nice to have a regular schedule, though. Bed times, lists, and plans. I like that kind of organization in my life. For about a week.

Two more weeks of Summer. Here we go....

As a former middle-school student, I can honestly say that you are doing a work of grace., saving your boys from the middle-school social "atmosphere."
My wife and I have two little kids and my laughable small salary. We want to homeschool our girls, but we keep finding our total lack of money to be a hinderance. Seeing that you can make it work gives me hope!

Does this mean that M' will be carrying a football everywhere he goes? Seems much more portable than a lacrosse stick.

Homeschool is really very cheap. With crayons and a few M&Ms you can cover grades K-3. For grades 4-8, you add a library card and a lot of household chores. You'd be very surprised at how difficult it's not.

OhMyGosh, he still carries that stick everywhere! He's like Edward Scissorhand with a Bass Guitar and a Lacrosse stick where his hands should be.

there are a plethera of co-op's, software, books and web sites to assist the high school homeschooler as well!
I'm gonna try to enjoy this my last year of homeschooling our daughter, a senior. *sniff
they grow too fast. At first it dosent seem fast enough cuz youre anxious to see them get on to the next stage, but toward the end, its the speed of light i tell ya. *Blink and theyre flying out the door...pass the kleenex.

Well hello right back at you Kelli! I don't imagine that there ARE many of us single, homeschooling moms here in Idaho! Sadly, this will be my older boys' first year EVER in public school. I am trying to finish up my last year of college as quickly as I can so I can work from home and get back to being the homseschooling mom again. I hate to use the school system like a babysitter, but I also didn't want their studies to suffer too much. Of course, I will probably spend the next two years un-doing what they have done to them this year, but I just wasn't sure what else to do. My "single" status was kind of thrust upon me just a few short months ago, and I'm trying my best to re-figure our life and still be able to keep the best parts of it.

Well---now that was more than I bet you expected to hear from a new visitor to your blog, huh :)? It's late! And I figured the more I typed, the more Michael Buble I could listen too ;).

Pop on by again some time!
