Ben's Funeral

I went to a funeral on Monday morning. Funerals are funny things. There's much to cry about, and often so much laughter, which really seems strange. How can people who are so desolate light up with joy at a visit from an old friend, or chuckle at a random comment? It's a time of old friends, good food, sweet memories, and family.
Funerals are important events, and can be quite powerful when the person remembered has lived well. My friend's husband did just that.
He loved his wife well, parented with purpose, and worked very hard.
He invested in people, loved his God, and built a legacy.
He had time in which to bring closure to those he loved, since his death was expected.
I hope that when I die, people will feel the empty space, as they do with Ben.
He filled a big spot in this world, and the emptiness is bound to echo for a long time.
