A scary Halloween

The local Christian radio station is playing all Christmas music today. Kill me now.

My kids have never been trick-or-treating. The reason is that I am a firm believer in being a dogmatic right wing fundamentalist. This is the same reason I vote, home educate, and drink heavily.

This year, however, I've sold my soul to the devil. Tim allows his kids to celebrate Halloween. Heck, they even decorate their house with skeletons and spiders. Since I am all in love with this man, I am going to Compromise. Perhaps "compromise" is the wrong word. The right phrasing may be "give up." I suspect I am going to be doing a lot of that.

People keep asking me if this man has any faults. I don't know if they just want the goods on him, or if they want to see if I am being realistic. He has six faults. I will list them for you here:

1. He owns 5 TVs

6. He celebrates Halloween.

Other than that, he's an ok fellow. I think that I can learn to live with #6.

I am not ready to think about Christmas, and so I am hating the radio. This does not explain why I am still listening to it. Perhaps I am just enjoying torturing myself as a way of reveling in this Pagan Holiday.

I am going to dress up, though. I don't know for sure what I'll be. Any day that involves costumes can't be all bad, though, right?

Kelly, all of our holidays are Pagan if you look at all deeply. Halloween just also happens to take a look at our darker nature. But it can also be quite fun in that it allows us to dress up and eat too much candy. Focus on the good not the bad or you'll have to give up Christmas and Easter too.

Jenn is right about the roots of thw holidays we observe-but that dosent meant we have to be a drag and not have fun-celebrate the good in life-experience some joy:0
I've lived both ways-as a kid-not allowed to participate in halloween, and then allowed to, and kids just want free candy and some fun-its the adults who usually screw that up;/
Have fun out there all-and brush your teeth!!

Well, as long as he doesn't drink blood - it is probably alright. He doesn't does he?!

Beside, November 1 is All Saints Day, which is where the term Halloween comes from. So, have all of the kids learn about what/who the saints of old were! Start with Stephen, move on to the deaths of the Apostles and the Church Fathers, etc. It can be very informative for them to see that people really did live their faith and how the world has pre-empted their day of memory....

And remember, good old Vlad aka Dracula is an ancestor of mine.... Blaaa-ah-ah-ah!

Darling, you have a cape, miriad hats, gloves and I'm sure a mardi gras mask or two...what else do you need to dress up? It really won't be much different from getting ready for church.

I love you!
